Uninstalling LimeWire

Click on the "Start" button. The "Start" button is typically located at the bottom left hand side of the screen.

Select Settings. This will cause a popup menu to come out. Then select Control Panel.

When the Control Panel opens you will have an icon for "Add/Remove Programs".

Double-click that icon.

The "Add/Remove Programs Properties" windows will appear displaying a list of all the currently installed programs.

Locate LimeWire on the list, and click on it. If you are running Windows 95 or 98, click on the button that says Add/Remove - if you are running 2000 or XP click on the button that says Change/Remove. This will begin the uninstall process.

If you do not see LimeWire on the list don't worry. Many of the earlier versions did not require you to install them they would just run independently as a standalone program. If this is the case, click on the Start Button then select Search, and finally select Files and Folders. If you are using Windows XP select the All Files and Folders option next. A dialog box will now be available to you to enter the information to search for. For the name, enter LimeWire. Leave the containing text option blank. Lastly use the drop down to tell the search program to look in "Local Hard Drives". Once you have done that press search and await the list to complete. Right click on files or directory that were found and select delete.

NOTE: If you delete a directory called LimeWire that contains LimeWire.exe that search result will also be removed from the results list. So don't worry if you see something that just disappears from the list.

LimeWire automatically installs LimeShop, which monitors your on-line purchases and redirects sales commissions belonging to other referring sites to LimeWire. Uninstalling LimeWire does not automatically remove LimeShop. To uninstall LimeShop:

1. Also look for and select LimeShop. Click Add/Remove.
2. Click OK.
3. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Note: If you are running Windows XP and the My Computer icon does not appear on your desktop, from the Start menu choose My Computer.
4. Double-click on the icon for your hard drive.
5. Open the Program Files folder.
6. Right-click on the LimeShop folder. From the menu which appears, choose Delete.
7. When you are asked if you are sure you want to remove the folder, click Yes.

LimeWire may also install BonziBuddy and other advertising and monitoring programs.

To completely remove these types of hidden applications several free applications are available for download.
