WiredKids is part of WiredSafety, the world's largest online safety & help group. Since its formation in 1999, WiredKids has held its annual WiredKids Summit where children & teens share their expertise, views & accolades about the Internet & their favorite sites. Unlike most online safety meetings, the WiredKids Summit is entirely run by children & teens, in three separate panels.

The first panel is devoted to online safety, privacy & security. WiredKids' elite group of teens trained in all aspects of online safety & security, the Teenangels, along with a select group of our younger WiredKids Safe Surfing Club, explain the latest online safety issues affecting children & teens.

During this panel, law enforcement groups will be recognized for their special contributions to keeping children safe online. The teen panel will be showing a trailer of their new online safety videos, including the new video for teens about online sexual predators & how to avoid them. They will also be announcing the winners of the First Annual WiredKids Safety Hero awards, for sites & programs that help educate children about online safety & responsible surfing.

The second panel of children & teens highlights the use of the Internet in education & equitable access for lower-income children, & children of special abilities. In addition to demonstrating the power of the Internet to help children learn & access educational resources, this panel will be awarding the Second Annual WiredKids Educational Superstar awards to sites & programs that have helped children learn & want to learn more.

The third panel is entitled "Just for Fun," which describes it very well. Here, the children & teens share what they love about the Internet, & how they are using it. Their favorite 50 sites will be named (listed as "The WiredKids 50"), along with the WiredKids Best of the Web awards. The WiredKids Best of the Web awards are for favorite sites selected by thousands of children & teens themselves. In order to be eligible, these sites have to be examined & approved by the WiredSafety WiredMoms & Dads. Finally, if they make it this far, the sites have to pass the scrutiny of our cyberlawyer & Executive Director, Parry Aftab, Esq., & WiredSafety's Legal Eagles for their privacy & commercial practices. While many are nominated, few are approved.

In addition to the panels, the children & teens will be announcing the launch of their Fun & Safe Online poster campaign. Children & teens from around the world are invited to submit their designs for posters celebrating the wonders of the Internet & safe & responsible surfing. The winners, at all age levels, will be announced in January, & made available at the WiredKids site & through sponsors.

In 2001, out of respect for the September 11th World Trade Center loss of Salvatore Zisa, the father of one of our New Jersey Teenangels, the Summit was not held. The 911Angels awards will be given in his memory & in the memory of all lost at the Pentagon, in the planes & at the World Trade Center.

Additional awards are being given to those selected by WiredKids' parent, WiredSafety, itself. These special awards honor & recognize leaders in the field of online safety, innovators of safe surfing programs & worldwide Internet pioneers.

A special luncheon & private briefing will be held following the WiredKids Summit. Space is very limited for the Summit & is invitation only for the luncheon briefing. For further information & to obtain an invitation, please contact: Parry Aftab
