WiredSafety joins in the fight to protect innocent Internet users

Prepared Statements of Parry Aftab, Esq.,
E-mail:

There is lots of confusion about what this case is all about. Why would a privacy lawyer and advocate and an Internet safety and help group oppose the application of a law designed to protect copyright owners? It's not about condoning piracy. It's about protecting privacy and safety of everyone online. No one knows better than Parry and her volunteers at WiredSafety.org that many people abuse the Internet and its users. Cyberstalkings and sexual predators, although not the norm, exist online. We need to make sure that while trying to stop piracy, we don't put tools into the hands of predators that make it easier for them to pierce the veil of privacy online.
