Stalking self-help
Change Your Online Identity
Not personally responding, may alone solve your problem over a period time, but this is usually NOT the case. Neither will it immediately eliminate the stress that most victims experience.
The fact that you are still receiving the harassing communications, and your stalker knows this, only re-enforces their belief that he/she is still having some degree of psychological impact.
The ONLY effective way to stop the attack IMMEDIATELY and, at the same time, eliminate a stalker's online access is to you is to completely change your Internet identities. This includes ALL e-mail accounts, screen names, personal Web sites, public profiles, etc. that this person could possibly be aware of.
This can be very frustrating to stalker because their need for control is no longer being satisfied. In fact, only the most vindictive will expend any real effort in trying to find you again. The large majority will simply give up and move on after a short period of time.
For this action to be truly effective, there are a couple of other precautions that must also be considered.
First, be very careful regarding who knows your new identity. Instruct them to NOT respond to ANY inquiries about you. Instead, they should let you know any time such inquiries are made and by whom.
Secondly, do NOT use any online services that your stalker is known to frequent or would be expected to use in trying to find you again. Despite their new identities, some victims have been re-identified by favorite words or expressions used in an open channel.
Lastly, if you are receiving contact through an account associated with your place of business, contact your System Administrator for assistance in changing your account.
