How can I teach my children about risks online if I have never used the Internet?

My child told me about their encounters online with someone I suspect is a sexual molester. I understand you want me to report it to law enforcement. But what do I do if I don't want to get law enforcement involved?

I urge you to let law enforcement know. Even if you don't want to get law enforcement involved, you should let the ISP know when one of its members is attempting to contact your child with inappropriate intentions. The FBI tells me that when they seize a computer used by a cyber-sexual predator, invariably they find e-mail messages that had been sent to them from parents threatening them for having attempted to lure their child. Had these parents done more than just complain to the predator, someone else's child might not have been molested.
